A new dining destination has emerged in the Commercial Row district, transforming the space once occupied by Cafe Meridian into something entirely fresh and inviting.

Culinary team at workThe restaurant is the vision of chef Bill McCullough, who's called the Truckee area home since 1989. With extensive experience from his tenure as sous chef at Wolfdale's in Tahoe City, he's brought his expertise and passion to this new venture.

From its opening day on February 7th, the establishment drew enthusiastic crowds of local diners—a testament to the quality and atmosphere McCullough has created.

"The local community is our true measure of success," McCullough explains. "They have discerning palates and high expectations. In an area with so many excellent restaurants, you need more than just good food—you need an experience that brings imagination and warmth together."

The restaurant's name carries special significance, drawing from Eastern philosophy where the dragonfly represents imagination and transformation—precisely the kind of magic McCullough aims to create for every guest.

The menu showcases what McCullough describes as Asian-Californian fusion, combining fresh, seasonal ingredients with distinctive herbs and aromatic spices. You'll discover inventive dishes like udon noodles tossed with fragrant basil and prawns in vibrant Thai green curry.

Even familiar favorites receive creative reinterpretation. The fish and chips, for instance, feature a delicate tempura coating paired with house-made sweet and sour sauce. A turkey and bacon sandwich arrives tucked in warm pita with cilantro pesto and ginger-spiced Asian coleslaw on the side.

The wine program emphasizes accessibility and exploration, with an extensive selection of international bottles available by the glass and in half-bottle formats—perfect for pairing without commitment.

An All-Star Team

McCullough has assembled what he proudly calls his "dream team"—a collection of seasoned culinary professionals and beloved local personalities.

Sous chef Larry Abeney brings expertise from Wolfdale's and prestigious Aspen establishments. Pascal Robert oversees the dining room alongside well-known chef and caterer Gary Bulmer. Wolfdale's owner and chef Douglas Dale serves as a creative consultant, lending his insight to every aspect of the operation.

Even the restaurant's aesthetic benefited from local talent—artist Allison Weiss transformed the restroom into an immersive dragonfly habitat that delights guests.

Built by a Chef, for Chefs

What began as a simple remodel evolved into a complete renovation, driven by McCullough's commitment to creating a functional, chef-friendly workspace.

"I'm a cook first, restaurateur second," he shares. "The kitchen had to work perfectly for the team who would bring these dishes to life."

That dedication delayed the opening by six weeks, but the result is a thoughtfully designed space that supports culinary excellence from prep to plate.

The second-floor south-facing deck offers stunning views of downtown and welcomes diners on sunny days—a perfect spot to savor the creative cuisine while taking in the mountain atmosphere.
